DRONE OPERATIONS IN ZAMBIA: WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

DRONE REGISTRATION:
All drones operating in Zambia must be registered with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and are assigned a unique identification number. Proof of ownership and technical specifications are among the requirements.
REMOTE PILOT LICENCE (RPL):
Professional drone operators are required to obtain the appropriate Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) issued by the CAA. This involves the applicable training and assessment requirements.
FILMING & PHOTOGRAMMETRY:
Whether you are using a drone for film or media production, mapping, surveying or photogrammetry, the operation must comply with the applicable RPAS requirements. The purpose of the flight does not remove the need to comply with aviation regulations.
AIRSPACE REQUIREMENTS:
Drone flights require mandatory airspace clearance from Zambia Air Force (ZAF). Restrictions apply around areas such as airports, military installations and other sensitive areas.
ROC – INITIAL & RENEWAL:
Organisations conducting applicable commercial/Corporate RPAS operations are required to obtain an RPAS Operator Certificate (ROC). The ROC serves as evidence that the operator has established and maintains the necessary safety, maintenance, and operational procedures to conduct RPAS operations safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
