ZedMobile's licence cancellation is now formally documented by Zambia's telecommunications regulator.
ZICTA published its "Notice of Cancellation of Licences – Beeline Telecoms Limited (Trading as ZedMobile)" on 21 September 2026.
The publication provides an official primary source for the regulatory action affecting Zambia's newest mobile network operator.
WHAT EXACTLY HAS BEEN CANCELLED?
ZICTA issues two important types of ICT licences.
A Network Licence allows an operator to construct, own or make available an electronic communications network or provide network services.
A Service Licence allows an operator to provide electronic communications services.
ZedMobile operated under Beeline Telecoms Limited, and ZICTA's latest publication formally records the cancellation of its licences.
WHY THIS MATTERS
ZedMobile entered Zambia's mobile market as a challenger to established operators and later announced that it had reached one million subscribers.
Its exit therefore isn't only a story about one company.
It raises a larger question about how difficult it is for a new mobile network to build infrastructure, maintain service quality, meet regulatory obligations and compete against established operators.
For existing customers, the most important issue remains how outstanding services, balances and other obligations are handled during the transition.
WHAT WE'RE WATCHING
